The latest issue of AAPI Nexus Journal 11:1-2, “Asian American and Pacific Islander Environmentalism: Expansions, Connections, and Social Change,” marks the 10th Anniversary of the journal and commemorates the 20th Anniversary of Executive Order 12898 on Environmental Justice. The special double issue focuses on the timely topics of Environmental Justice, Education, and Immigration and aims to inform policy debates and arenas with research on understudied populations and topics related to Asian American and Pacific Islanders. AAPI Nexus Senior Editor and Professor Paul Ong spoke at several events in Washington DC where the special issue was featured and discussed with students, government agency professionals, researchers, and policy makers. The events were organized in collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, White House on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies. Part One features a reflection on ten years of the journal, papers addressing alternative methods for Asian American Studies, Indian Immigrant Women Support Networks, and U.S. Immigration and Filipino Labor Export Policies in Human Trafficking. Part Two examines the intersection of Asian American Studies and Environmental Studies, revealing information and insights that can be useful in environmental and social justice advocacy, strategic planning, policy development and programming. Professor Julie Sze (UC Davis) and Charles Lee (Deputy Associate Assistant Administrator for Environmental Justice, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) served as the consulting guest editors for this portion of the volume. The special issue was made possible through the generous support from the UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation, UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, UC Davis American Studies Program, and the UC Davis John Muir Institute for the Environment, Environmental Justice Project.

In Fall 2014, AAPI Nexus Journal will release a special issue examining the value and impact of health services provided through federally qualified health centers to Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, & Pacific Islanders. The special issue is a joint project with Asian Health Services, Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, Waimānalo Health Center, Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations, UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, and UCLA Center for Health Policy Research.
